Gov. Bob Taft wants legislation to prevent
unscrupulous lenders from taking advantage of
vulnerable consumers, trapping them into unfair
home loans that often lead to foreclosure or
bankruptcy.
Taft presented his plan last week, although
lawmakers already have two proposals moving
through committees.
Taft’s plan includes expanding the Consumer
Sales Practices Act to cover mortgage brokers and
loan officers, much like the proposals in place.
Currently, brokers and lenders are exempted from
the law that prohibits deceptive sales practices.
The governor says his plan builds upon current
efforts to regulate the home-buying industry, such
as the licensing of loan officers. Folks in the
know say that just didn’t work.
HOLD THE BURGERS
Cheeseburger In Paradise was scheduled to open
Tuesday at 5075 Dressler Rd. NW at the former Chi
Chi’s site, but the corporate folks say unforeseen
circumstances forced them to delay it for a week.

IN FLIGHT
The guys at Ohio Airships in Mantua say they’ve
finished construction of the prototype Dynalifter
aircraft, a 120-foot hybrid that looks like a
blimp, but has wings similar to an airplane’s.
The aircraft, built at Barber Airfield north of
Alliance, is a two-seater that’s ready for
testing, but weather may limit the possibilities
for a while, holding up FAA certification as an
experimental aircraft.
Owners Robert Rist and Brian Martin say the
craft has both freight movement and military
applications.
